An exceptional woman, passionate and visionary
Once upon a time, there was Annick Goutal, a woman of intuition and emotion, one of those visionaries who go to the end of their dreams. Child prodigy, she is promised to a pianist career. Very quickly, she rebels against this destiny to become a model.
Her curiosity for perfumes then brought her to Grasse, where she met a man who changed her life and transmit her a new passion: in 1979, she became a perfume creator. Her sensoriality, her generosity and her gift for the composition are the signature assets of her unique and remarkable perfumes.
As always, what passes in her hands is transformed into success, like herfirst creation, L'Eau d'Hadrien, created in 1981 and became an icon. The perfumer's organ is her new instrument. The fragrance notes replace the musical notes. Her sensoriality, her generosity and her gift for the composition are the signature assets of her unique and remarkable perfumes.
Our fragrances are a blend of poetry, luxuriant nature and everlasting culture.
Each creation is an excluisve tale, a unique experience.
A story of transmission
In 1981, the first shop opens rue de Bellechasse, a little haven on the Left Bank steeped in a certain Parisian charm—a happy intuition since it was the stomping grounds of intellectuals and journalists who then became the creator's first devotees. In contrast of the trends which bring to light the heady perfumes, the very personal and avant-garde creations of the Maison Goutal quickly seduce an audience of experts and artists. Inspiring by the nature of rare olfactory combinations, Annick Goutal created a style of her own, made of delicacy and brilliance, freshness and character. Her first creation, L'Eau d'Hadrien, composed in 1981, put Annick Goutal as a pioneer of the Niche Perfumery.
In 1998, the creation Petite Chérie is a tribute to Camille Goutal, Annick Goutal's daughter. Camille Goutal grew up with the artistic influence of this extraordinary woman. She inculcated above all to her daughter the importance of having fun and living of her dreams. Thus, Camille Goutal became passionate from an early age for photography.
It was in 1999 that Camille continued the work of her mother following her death. Today, Camille is the Director of Creation of Goutal, and works on the composition of each perfume with Isabelle Doyen, a perfumer who has been an accomplice of the Maison since forever.
Poetry, nature and culture at the heart of its creations
Goutal, author of perfume
The fragrance creations by the Maison Goutal are inspired by a clever blend of poetry and nature, botanicals and culture, harnessing their storytelling power to embody the vocation of "Conteur de Parfum". Eau d’Hadrien remains the perfect example, the flagship fragrance of the House that tells the story of the famous Tuscan hills and the tribulations of the namesake emperor, described by Marguerite Yourcenar in Memoirs of Hadrian.
The name of each Goutal fragrance sounds like the title of a novel, painting pictures that spark the imagination. Each fragrance tells a story that can be experienced on the skin and by the senses.
A responsible brand
In an effort to offer the most authentic ingredients and the most environmentally friendly products, the Maison Goutal strives to adhere to green principles at every stage in the development process.
Going against popular marketing opinion, the fragrances are not coloured and the bottles have been refillable from the very beginning, while packaging is designed to use as little paper as possible. Ethics and awareness that Goutal places at the very heart of its creation.
Luxury is in each detail
